LT. Gov. Wyman, Dept. of Social Services, Access Health CT Commemorate 7th Anniversary of Affordable Care Act
(HARTFORD, Conn.) – Today, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, Chair of Access Health CT (AHCT), Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick Bremby, and Access Health CT CEO Jim Wadleigh released statements in advance of the seventh anniversary of the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA), which is tomorrow, March 23, 2017. In Connecticut, the ACA is credited with reducing the state’s uninsured rate by half to 3.8 percent, among the lowest in the nation. It has also spurred other major reform initiatives currently underway to improve the healthcare system and control costs.

Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Statements on U.S. Senate Vote to Repeal Federal Rule Preventing People with Mental Health Illnesses from Purchasing Guns
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements regarding a vote in the U.S. Senate today to repeal a federal regulation adopted by the Obama Administration in the aftermath of the 2012 tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School that prevents people with severe mental health illnesses from purchasing firearms. The legislation repealing the regulation passed the Senate by a vote of 57-43 and was approved in the House earlier this month by a vote of 235-185. It now goes to the White House for the president’s signature.

Lt. Governor Wyman Supports Establishing Office of Health Strategy
(Hartford, CT) – Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman today testified in front of the Public Health Committee in support of Senate Bill 795, An Act Establishing the Office of Health Strategy and Improving the Certificate of Need Program. The legislation seeks to bring Connecticut’s healthcare reform work under one umbrella, the Office of Health Strategy (OHS), to better align planning efforts, avoid duplication of work, and streamline efforts to improve healthcare access and reduce costs.

Lt. Gov. Wyman, Access Health CT Announce 2017 Open Enrollment Numbers
(HARTFORD, Conn.) – Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, Chair of the Board of Access Health CT (AHCT), and AHCT CEO Jim Wadleigh today announced that the state’s health insurance exchange enrolled 111,524 residents during the 2017 Open Enrollment Period, which ended at midnight on January 31, 2017. Of those enrollees, 13,791 consumers are brand new to the exchange. In addition, 5,000 people came through AHCT seeking dental coverage and 1,467 enrolled in health coverage through the Small Business Program.

Gov. Malloy and Conn. Airport Authority Announce Launch of Norwegian Air International Operations at Bradley International Airport
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy, officials from the Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA), and representatives from Norwegian Air today announced that Norwegian Air International, a low-cost carrier and Norwegian Air’s Irish subsidiary, will soon commence operations at Bradley International Airport. Beginning in June, 17, 2017, the airline will offer direct, nonstop service from Bradley International Airport to Edinburgh, Scotland, at its trademark low cost fares.
