Open Choice

The Open Choice Program is a public school program that allows Hartford-residents to attend non-magnet public schools in grades PK4-12 in nearby suburban school districts, and non-Hartford resident students to attend certain non-magnet public schools in grades kindergarten-8 in Hartford. This program offers a great opportunity for students to access quality academic programming outside of their home district while learning in culturally diverse and enriching school communities.

  • Hartford Residents may apply for their children entering PK4 (age 4) through grade 10 to attend a public school in a school district located outside of Hartford based on your residential zone number. Students participating in Open Choice remain in the school district through graduation.
  • Non-Hartford Residents may apply for their children entering kindergarten through grade 8 to attend select public schools located in Hartford with special programming.
