Effective June 16, 2025, paper medical examiner certificates will not be accepted for Commercial Driver License (CDL) and Commercial Learner Permit (CLP) holders and applicants at Connecticut DMV offices.
The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners will send certificates electronically to the Connecticut DMV. This change is due to updates in Federal Regulations.
If you currently hold a CDL or CLP, or are applying for a CLP, your medical examiner's certificate will be sent electronically to the Connecticut DMV. You will not use the DMV’s portal to upload your certificate.

Yes, you can request a copy of your MEC for your records from your Medical Examiner. This can assist you if there are any issues in the electronic transmission.
Motor carriers may no longer use the paper Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC), Form MCSA-5876, as proof of a CLP applicant or CDL holder’s medical certification. Instead, motor carriers must verify and document in the driver qualification file that the driver has a valid MEC and any required medical variances before allowing the driver to operate a commercial motor vehicle.
