Order Replacement Plates

This online service has been provided to customers who need to replace a plate that has been mutilated or damaged.
 
Who may order replacement plates online?
Any customer who has a plate that has been mutilated or damaged.  If your plate(s) has been lost, you must go to a DMV office to obtain new ones.  If your plate has been stolen, please report this to your local police department.
 
What to do if your plate is stolen?

  • Obtain a written police report and bring it to your local DMV Hub or Limited Service office along with:
    •     Remaining plate(s), (if any)
    •     Registration Certificate
    •     Connecticut Insurance Card
  • Complete a Marker Plate Notice (form E-159)    
  • Two off the shelf plates will then be issued.
What it will cost:  
  • $5 with the police report.
  • Without the police report stating the plate(s) was stolen the fee for the new plates will be $25. Case numbers will not be accepted in lieu of the police report.

Replace Your Plates - For Individuals

Individual
Please be ready to provide the following information to replace plates:
  • First and Last Names,
  • CT Driver License or Non-driver ID Number,
  • Date of Birth,
  • Current License Plate Number,
  • Plate class (i.e. Passenger, Combination, Commercial, etc.)
Payment Options:
You must use a debit or credit card. Discover, MasterCard or Visa accepted.

 

Print Documents:
Once you have completed the on-line vehicle renewal transaction you may be required to print. Please note Adobe Acrobat (minimum version 10.1) will be required.

 

Replace Your Plates - For Organizations

Organization
Please be ready to provide the following information to replace plates:
  • Secretary of State Number.
  • Current License Plate Number,
  • Plate class (i.e. Passenger, Combination, Commercial, etc.)
As an organization, if the DMV does not have your Secretary of State Number (SOS#) on file you must first contact the DMV to have this added to your organization customer record prior to conducting an on-line transaction.
