General Permit for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations ("CAFO GP")
Notice of Issuance of the General Permit for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (“CAFO GP”)
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (“DEEP”) hereby gives notice of the issuance of the General Permit for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (“CAFO GP”). The CAFO GP was developed pursuant to EPA’s NPDES Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (“CAFO”) Program with the purpose of controlling point-source discharges of agricultural wastewater and stormwater from areas of animal confinement, feeding, and maintenance at CAFOs. The issued CAFO GP will become effective January 1, 2023.
The Public Notice of Tentative Decision to issue the CAFO GP was published in six newspapers statewide on February 22, 2022. A total of 71 comments were received during the 30-day comment period for the general permit. Staff from the Water Permitting and Enforcement Division produced a Response to Comments document pursuant to the comments received.
